In Christmas mood already?

I know I am. Haha!

It seems a bit too early to play Christmas carols, but I uploaded one on this blog anyway. LOL! Today, me and my mom put up the Christmas tree. I love putting up Christmas tree. Can't remember a single Christmas that we celebrated without the tree in our living room.

Our Christmas tree is always exceptionally colourful, with excessive amount of decorations. This is the way me and my mom like our tree. We've been collecting Christmas decorations for ages to achieve this effect. Something is missing here though. PRESENTS. Haha! Waiting for my uncle to come back from Germany for that. (Sorry, the pics are not clear coz I used my lousy w550i to capture these.)

Although I have a phobia to dolls, there is a larger version of that doll on the tree beside my bed. One with glowing wings.

Traditionally, these candles are put by the windows during Christmas to guide Santa Claus' sleigh at night. But of course, we don't usually have those glass windows without ugly iron bars in Malaysia and anyone with common sense wouldn't use real candles. So windows are replaced (rather strangely) with the audio set and candles are replaced with lightbulbs.

Did I ever mention that Christmas is my favourite festival? Although strictly speaking, Christians don't celebrate Christmas and we certainly don't get angpaus like we do during Chinese New Year, I still choose Xmas over CNY because...

  1. Christmas carols are WAY better music compared to CNY songs. I hate CNY songs. They are ear-splitting and cause serious migrane. Plus every year you'll see little girls/aunties and uncles with freaking horrible makeup coming out with CNY VCDs, which usually consist of the EXACT SAME songs in their release during the previous CNY. The remix versions are EVEN worse. Totally "ah beng-ish" and lame. You know, these people should get fined for creating noise pollution.
  2. Presents are better than angpaus. Preparing presents requires much more patience and sincerity, although it always causes headache to get suitable presents for every member in the family. Besides, exchanging presents and tearing up wrapping papers are such a fun. With angpaus, you always have to be very careful when opening the packet so that you don't accidentally tear the $$; you are always competing with your siblings to see who gets more $$......Basically, it's ALL about $$ and how you lose half of it gambling with your cousins.
  3. Christmas decorations are colourful and attractive. CNY decorations are just......red.
  4. Hollywood's year-end blockbusters only come out during Christmas, not CNY.
  5. CNY causes air pollution. Think fire crackers and joss sticks.
  6. The amount of saturated fat intake during CNY is a frightening figure. Christmas is OK because the celebration is only one day and there's only one Christmas feast. That is reasonable. But during CNY, you eat all kinds of junk food and drink as much soft drink as humanly possible throughout the FIVETEEN days of celebration. The effect on your waistline is instantaneous.

Having said that, I don't hate CNY. I mean, I couldn't hate it. I'm Chinese after all. I just like Christmas better.

P/S: If a Christmas-hater is called the Grinch, I wonder what a CNY-hater is called. Any idea?
